“…when one country invades another, it usually reflects the problems of the invader’s domestic politics, no matter what the justification for the invasion is. Although…Trump never mentioned taking over Greenland—or Canada, or Panama, or Mexico—during the 2024 campaign, he has made such takeovers a key objective of his administration.”

Letters from an American · March 31, 2025Av Heather Cox Richardson

“Immediately after World War II, the American military maintained 17 bases and installations in Greenland, with thousands of soldiers, but now it maintains only the Pituffik Space Base on Greenland’s northwest coast with about 200 soldiers. It was there that Vance landed with his wife…on Friday after Greenlanders and Danes opposed a more extended itinerary.”
—Heather Cox Richardson, March 31, 2025

“…the U.S. invading another country—any other country, but particularly an ally—…would justify Russia’s seizure of Ukrainian territory.”
—Heather Cox Richardson, March 31, 2025

So many? What’s wrong with Americans???
“…26% of Americans like the idea of taking over Greenland.”
—Heather Cox Richardson, March 31, 2025

So few? What’s wrong with Americans?
“…71% of Americans thought it was “not acceptable” for immigration authorities to mistakenly detain legal U.S. residents…”
—Heather Cox Richardson, March 31, 2025

“…Trump administration attorneys admitted…that officials from Immigration and Customs Enforcement had seized and deported Kilmar Abrego Garcia by accident. Abrego Garcia fled gang threats in El Salvador when he was 16, and came to the U.S. He has no criminal record, works full time…, is married to an American citizen, and is the father of a disabled U.S. citizen.”
—Heather Cox Richardson, March 31, 2025

“The U.S. government did not charge Abrego Garcia with a crime but deported…because of an administrative error. …because he is no longer in U.S. custody, the government said it is beyond the reach…to get him back.”
—Heather Cox Richardson, March 31, 2025

“They claim that the court is powerless… If that’s true, the immigration laws are meaningless—all of them—because the government can deport whoever they want, wherever they want, whenever they want, and no court can do anything about it once it’s done.”
—Simon Sandoval-Moshenberg, Abrego Garcia’s attorney

@janhoglund
Gonna call bullshit on her statement.
The US gov is paying El Salvador for that concentration camp, and even did a <expletive> photo op there. The notion that they couldn't possibly ask for Mr. Garcia's return is beyond laughable.

Seems to me that a judge could quite reasonably order the admin to seek his immediate return, and provide copies of the communications to prove they did so.

She's clearly on the wrong side of the prison bars.

@n1xnx@tilde.zone @janhoglund That's not her statement. That is the statement of the trump regime. Don't shoot the messenger. Bye.

@janhoglund
To eliminate any misinterpretation, I'm referring to the Trump admin folks as being on the wrong side of the prison bars. (I'm thinking of that ghastly photo-op in particular.)

@janhoglund There was NO ACCIDENT... it was an INTENTIONAL deviance of the LAW...

THIS WHOLE INTERACTION OF MANY ... has NOT given anyone any JUDICIAL rights and there could be more than just the one person .. but they have no one to speak for them ! 🚨🚨🚨

@janhoglund

Any county with any sort of relationship with El Salvador should get Abrego Garcia back from foreign illegal imprisonment.

I appreciate it's not anybody's responsibility to aid this person but the USA

But without a massive effect we can redress a Wong and shove two finger up to #trump

Win win

@janhoglund because they have no idea what it means other than what the orange-one is spouting about it making 'merica safer.

@janhoglund@mastodon.nu Implication is that around a quarter of Americans have no understanding of the basic concepts like sharing the planet. Which tbh wouldn't be a surprise.

@janhoglund

This is the essential point to understand about Trump's threats against Canada, Greenland, Panama . . . It all comes down to what Trump owes to Putin.
