I read a good line in a story that's helped me with imposter syndrome.
It said, remember that people are as a species used to living in groups of about 200, grouped around several campfires.
Every
Single
Campfire
needs its own storyteller, its own dancer, its own musician. More than one, really.
So don't compare yourself to those who perform for millions.
Are you the person who can make people happy around your closest campfire? That's what's needed.
I wrote this just before going to bed, and how amazing it has been appreciated by so many people!
It's on about 400 likes, which means it's not only a story that's been heard by our own fireplaces, but the two neighbouring clans have started to drop by and talk to us as well <3
And no, I dont remember which book I read this in. I've read a lot, and something I enjoy doing is finding wisdom and gems in unlikely places.
For example, one of my most important quotes is a line of dialogue from an archaeologist in the old space pilot game Freelancer.
"I thought: if the universe exists for eons, but I could only experience it for a brief moment of time, I wondered what a more ancient race must have thought of it? I wanted to live through them."
Hi, if you're seeing this viral post I made, how about helping the Fediverse grow by participating in the discussion about a hashtag for new people!
Vote in the poll, or suggest a different hashtag for next week's poll.
@Loukas I needed to hear that very badly today. Thank you.
@middleclasstool Great to know it helped! <3
I think @neilhimself had the best ever story on Impostor Syndrome, involving the first moonwalker with the same first name as him: https://journal.neilgaiman.com/2017/05/the-neil-story-with-additional-footnote.html
@IronCurtain @Loukas @neilhimself
I just read what Nick Cave had to say about ChatGPT writing a “Nick Cave” song and then this, and I wonder whether the #FutureOfAI is to make all of us carbon-based humans feel like imposters.
@Loukas I don't know how to tell you how much I love this!
@AdaraAstin Thank you, I appreciate that so much.
@Loukas Ahh, I love that!
#AmWriting
@raiaren yay, keep writing!
@Loukas
I love this. I have a long story I'll tell someday about how YouTube killed my love for making music. I want to get back to it, but it's taken literally years to realign my thinking to a healthy place.
@RussSharek
Keep creating, on your own terms, and the joy will return.
@junkmuffler @RussSharek ugh i can imagine. Like suddenly everyone lives in the same city
@Loukas Thank you for this, it’s a perfect encapsulation of something I’ve been trying to express
@operationpuppet brilliant to hear!
@Loukas Thank you for this. I needed.to hear it this morning.
@Loukas I am the person that tries to light the campfire while everybody watches.
@paytonrules If all they do is watch, they'd better be happy you're stepping up!
@treehousedarren @Loukas , can you follow me? I'm boltonnut@mindly.social and thanks
@treehousedarren @Loukas I think I may have followed you, Daron.
@Loukas You don't need to be the best in the world, the country, or even the city. Just be the best you who is there.
@relee definitely!
@Loukas I love this so much!
@Ponygirl thank you :)
@Loukas What a lovely description- & so true. Thank you for sharing this.
